Projecte d'Investigació Sobre Compostos Irritants en Natació

La natació en piscines és freqüent en nens i adults, ja que té uns clars beneficis sobre la salut. Els compostos utilitzats per desinfectar són molt reactius i generen centenars de productes no desitjats en reaccionar amb la matèria orgànica de l'aigua i d'origen humà (cabell, saliva, pell, orina o cosmètics). Alguns d'aquests compostos tenen una reconeguda activitat carcinogènica en animals d'experimentació i compostos nitrogenats com la tricloramina poden danyar l'epiteli pulmonar. En persones, aquesta exposició s'ha associat a diversos tipus de càncer i efectes respiratoris, però el coneixement dels mecanismes d'acció d'aquests contaminants és escàs.



El projecte PISCINA es proposa avaluar l’exposició als subproductes de la desinfecció i els efectes genotòxics i respiratoris, que poden tenir vies d'actuació comuns i que estan associats amb importants problemes de salut pública. Està integrat per dos subestudis on participen diferents centres d’investigació: un estudi experimental i un estudi epidemiològic.



L’estudi ha estat aprovat pel Comitè Ètic de l’Institut Municipal d’Investigacions Mèdiques i ha estat finançat pel Ministeri d’Educació i Ciència (Exp. SAF 2005-07643-C03-01) i el Ministeri de Sanitat (FIS CP06/00341).
