The ReAcció project is a science outreach campaign aimed at raising public awareness of the issue of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). This initiative, promoted by ISGlobal during the International Awareness Week on AMR (3rd week of November 2025), seeks to foster public understanding, interdisciplinary debate and artistic collaboration to tackle one of the greatest global health challenges of the 21st century.
Through an integrative approach (interdisciplinary collaborations among professionals in health, regulation, education, research and the arts) for accessible communication (adapting language and knowledge transfer according to the expertise and concerns or questions of the audience, as well as artistic and interactive experiences) with social impact (encouraging behavioural change towards the responsible use of antibiotics, reducing self-diagnosis and self-prescription, improving understanding of how to properly follow antibiotic treatment, and highlighting the global impacts of AMR).
Thanks to this process, the aim is to increase public knowledge about AMR and its risks, promote social and political action to mitigate its effects, and establish an annual campaign recognised in both the scientific and cultural spheres. Thus, ReAcció will turn AMR awareness into a benchmark initiative that combines science, art and citizen participation to build a more informed, responsible and committed society towards global health, through the design and implementation of:
- Round tables and participatory debates: sessions open to the general, non-expert public, held in various civic centres in Barcelona and L’Hospitalet, featuring presentations from multidisciplinary experts (microbiology, public health, zoonoses, pharmaceutical regulation and Planetary Health, among others) as well as representatives from civil society, regulatory agencies and other key stakeholders. These round tables will foster open dialogue between professionals and citizens to address the impacts of AMR, its link to individual and collective behaviours, and the actions that can be taken to mitigate its effects.
- Immersive public installations: Interactive and immersive artistic experiences will be created in collaboration between multidisciplinary scientific and artistic teams (audiovisuals, graphic design and interactive installations). The installations will illustrate concepts such as bacterial growth and resistance, the environmental impact of antibiotic consumption, and the interconnection between human, animal and environmental health (One Health). They will be placed in busy public spaces (squares, parks or cultural centres) in Barcelona to capture the attention of the general public and encourage reflection on AMR and its global impact.
