ISGlobal and MSF Intensify Collaboration on Global Health Education

Médicos Sin Fronteras Spain will become a key contributor to the ISGlobal–University of Barcelona Master of Global Health

18.09.2014

The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) and the NGO Médicos Sin Fronteras (MSF) in Spain have signed an agreement to jointly organise postgraduate and university extension courses on global health. The new agreement builds on a relationship that began three years ago when MSF started contributing to the ISGlobal–University of Barcelona Master of Global Health, one of the first postgraduate programmes in Spain to offer training in health from a global, multidisciplinary perspective.

During the 2014-2015 academic year, ISGlobal and MSF will run three courses, which can be taken separately or as part of the Master of Global Health. MSF will also participate in the supervision of final projects in the master's programme.

  • Humanitarian Crises and Global Health: Coordinated by MSF, this course will equip students with the basic tools and knowledge they need to address humanitarian crises from a global health perspective, guided by medical ethics and the principles of neutrality and impartiality. The course also deals with the use of advocacy to improve medical treatments and protocols.
  • Nutrition and Food Security: Coordinated by ISGlobal in collaboration with MSF, this course will address key nutritional challenges and approaches to improving nutritional status that can be implemented at the household, community, national and international levels.
  • Maternal and Reproductive Health: This course will combine epidemiological and clinical information with knowledge of tools related to health interventions, health policy and development. The objective is to give students a critical understanding of the main problems of maternal and reproductive health in low- and middle-income countries. It will be coordinated by ISGlobal in collaboration with MSF.
