HI-WATE

Health impacts of long-term exposure to disinfection by-products in drinking water

Duration
2008-2010
Coordinator
Imperial College, UK
Funded by
European Comission
The overall objective is to investigate the potential risks to human health associated with long-term exposure to low levels of disinfectants (such as chlorine) and disinfectant derivatives (BPD) are created for water human consumption and are used in the food industry.

The study includes analysis of the risks and benefits, including the quantitative assessment of risk associated with microbial contamination through ingestion of water towards the chemical risk, and comparing alternative treatment options.

The results will be improved through the evaluation and risk management. The study will support databases and other existing studies, as well as information gathered recently.
