The Health Counselor Antoni Comín has named three ISGlobal researchers as members of the Advisory Council for Public Health. They are Josep M. Antó, scientific director of ISGlobal, Antoni Plasència, general director of ISGlobal, and Antoni Trilla, epidemiologist at the Hospital Clinic and researcher at ISGlobal. The Council’s role is to advise the Health Counselor on technical and scientific aspects of public health. It is composed by 20 health experts, proposed by the Public Health secretary. The members are appointed for a four-year period and can be re-elected for an additional period.
Dr. Josep M. Antó has worked with the Municipal Institute of Medical Research (IMIM-IMAS) where he has coordinated the Respiratory and Environmental Health Research Unit. He is Professor of Medicine at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and has received the Medals Narcis Monturiol and Josep Trueta awarded by the Catalan government. His research focuses on the epidemiology of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, as well as the environmental determinants and prevention of these diseases.
Dr. Antoni Plasència, specialist in Public Health and Preventive Medicine, is Professor at the University of Barcelona and has been associate professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and at the Health Policy and Management Department at Bloomberg School of Public Health, John Hopkins University. From 2004-2011 he was Director General of Public Health of the Generalitat of Catalonia. His professional activity focuses on health systems, policy-making, strategic planning and translation, and the implementation and evaluation of public health services.
El Dr. Antoni Trilla is Professor at the University of Barcelona, where he teaches undergraduate as well as graduate students. He also is director of the Evaluation, Support and Prevention Unit at Hospital Clinic. His work mainly focuses on the prevention and control of healthcare-related infections, isolation and control procedures for highly infectious diseases, and quality of care and clinical safety.
