Elena Marbán Castro obtained her Bachelors’ degree in Health Biology at Universidad de Alcalá de Henares in 2013. She holds a Master of Tropical Medicine and International Health at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid – Fundación Jiménez Díaz (2013-2014) with her practical training performed at the General Rural Hospital of Gambo, Ethiopia.

Afterwards, she performed a Master of Clinical Research: International Health at ISGlobal-Universitat de Barcelona-Hospital Clínic (2015-2016). During her master’s thesis, she worked on vaccination coverage at the Centro de Investigação em Saúde de Manhiça (CISM), Mozambique.

In June 2016, she started working at ISGlobal as a Research Assistant at ISGlobal under the supervision of Dr Azucena Bardají, coordinating a surveillance study with pregnant women exposed to Zika virus. At the same time, she chairs an organization of young professionals in Global Health (the Global Health Next Generation Network). 

Currently, she is a predoctoral researcher thanks to a doctorate scholarship from "la Caixa" Foundation. She works to understand the impact of the Zika virus epidemic on maternal, reproductive and child health. She is very passionate about inequalities in health and gender issues.
