Forbes Magazine Designates César Velasco as One of the 30 Most Influential European Leaders under 30

Dr. Velasco was part of the Ebola work group at ISGlobal, where he is currently doing his PhD

21.01.2015

The popular Forbes magazine has established a list of those it considers to be the 30 top young leaders under 30 in Europe. The list includes César Velasco, a medical doctor and researcher associated to ISGlobal, where he is currently doing his PhD. In fact, Dr. Velasco was chosen to lead the list of standouts in Science and Health Care, one of the 10 categories of the list.

According to Forbes, the profiles were selected from thousands of nominees proposed by an "international army" of more than a dozen reporters.

Dr. Velasco was a medical resident in Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona, and his work at ISGlobal was related to the Ebola outbreak response. Last year he was the youngest among 15 experts selected by the WHO to constitute the SAGE working group on Ebola vaccines and vaccination. During the summer of 2015 he worked on the frontline in Sierra Leone as an epidemiologist for WHO, an experience he talks of in this blog.

César Velasco has also worked as a medical resident in the Manhiça Health Research Centre (CISM) in Mozambique.

"This is a ranking with 80 million visits per year and it is the first time that Forbes establishes a European list", explains the young researcher. "The fact that the first person in the Science and Health category is an epidemiologist working on global health is a clear indicator of a change in mentality", he adds, referring to the growing awareness of global health issues among the international community.

Dr. Velasco is currently the medical sub-director at the Hospital Clínico Universitario of Zaragoza.
