The network of Global Health students (Global Health Next Generation Network, GHNGN) has launched its third annual meeting in the Caixa Forum of Barcelona, with more than 80 participants of different backgrounds across the world. With the motto “Building Bridges in Global Health”, the event seeks to build connections between the different areas of global health in order to tackle today’s challenges more effectively. Antoni Plasència, Director General of the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) has delivered the keynote lecture of the opening ceremony on the importance of bridging the gap and aiming at global health equity.

“We have created this platform to help young professionals from different cultures and backgrounds to network and exchange expertise and skills, help them in their transition from academic to professional careers, and support their engagement in global health initiatives and projects worldwide” explains Camila González, one of the organizers of the event.

Other speakers at the GHNGN Forum - that will take place from September 30 to October 1st - include Leire Pajin, Director of Global Development at ISGlobal, Nuria Casamitana, Director of Training at ISGlobal, Jeffrey Lazarus, joint Professor at ISGlobal and the University of Copenhagen, Jose Antonio Bastos, President of MSF Spain, and Benedetto Saraceno, from the Lisbon Institute for Global Health.

Through a series of sessions, panel discussions and workshops, the meeting will address issues such as the benefits of tackling health issues from different perspectives, health care provision to immigrants and refugees, and health information technology and innovation. It will also allow young professionals in global health to present their vision and projects and engage in a series of key networking activities for their future careers.

The Global Health Next Generation Network is a team of young professionals from different nationalities and disciplines in the global health field. The conference has received the support of ‘la Caixa’ Foundation, in collaboration with the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) and the University of Barcelona.
