WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
ISGlobal is seeking a Clinical Microbiologist who is interested in taking over and managing activities of the project Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS). The overall project goal is to ascertain definitive causes of death in children and still births in sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia, using innovative approach to generate and share knowledge that improves understanding and prevention of child mortality (https://champshealth.org).
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE /QUALIFICATIONS
- Clinical Microbiologist specialist official degree through MIR, FIR or BIR
- Experience in biomedical research
- Experience on data analysis (laboratory data) and manuscript writing
- Expertise in health projects developed at low-income countries
- Expertise in developing, training and standardize microbiological diagnostic tests.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
- Clinical microbiology laboratory and biomedical research skills, and expertise for at least 5 years
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Training and supervising the laboratory staff at Quelimane Central Hospital (QCH) in order to improve their qualifications as laboratory technicians for microbiology tests
- Propose actions and tools to improve the performance of QCH laboratory
- Assistance of lab technologists on critical analysis and manuscript writing of laboratory related data
- Supervise laboratory related CHAMPS project ensuring data quality
- Participate in the panel of determination of cause of death (DeCoDe panel)
- Identify areas for improvement and propose specific actions
SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Perform a training program in clinical microbiology diagnosis techniques (bacteriology, parasitology and virology)
- Participate in the CHAMPS project to ascertain the causes of death in children population as a clinical microbiologist
AUXILIAR TASK
Supervise and help in daily microbiology laboratory duties in order to improve the lab technicians work

LANGUAGE LEVEL
- English First Certificate level
- Portuguese, basic skills in talk and oral/written understanding
- Spanish native language
CONDITIONS
- Duration: 3 months

- Contract: Full time
- Salary Range: According to internal scales

SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process is designed in two phases:
1- Interview phase of a technical nature, with the team that requires the incorporation. To assess the person's skills and CV.
2 - Meeting with HR with the finalist(s) to finish assessing the profile and discuss contractual and institutional issues.
If needed any technical test could be pass. A Psychological Competency Evaluation Test will be required for the structural or transversal positions.
In accordance with the OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process.
