Paulina Jedynak

Postdoctoral fellow Maternal, Child & Reproductive Health, Childhood & Environment

Paulina Jedynak is a postdoctoral researcher working on the HyPAXE project. She studies whether the level of pregnancy exposure to synthetic phenols (man-made endocrine disruptors abundantly present in the environment that may mimic or interfere with the body's hormones) can be associated to health outcomes in pregnant women and their offspring.

In 2013 Paulina obtained her PhD in molecular biology (neurosciences) and studied mechanisms behind different neurobiological disorders in rodent disease models. In 2018, she obtained a master’s degree in bioinformatics and biostatistics at the interdisciplinary unit of the UOC/UB (Barcelona, Spain) with a work on prenatal exposure to a wide range of environmental chemicals (chemical exposome) and child behaviour.

In 2019 Paulina started a post-doctoral fellowship in Rémy Slama’s team of Environmental Epidemiology applied to Development and Respiratory Health at INSERM/University Grenoble-Alpes (France). She investigated the effect of pregnancy exposure to endocrine disruptors such as phenols and phthalates on epigenetic changes in placenta, DNA methylation in particular. Paulina’s work has been the first published study investigating the associations between prenatal exposure to synthetic phenols and phthalates and placental DNA methylation on the epigenome-wide scale.
