Jaume Lanaspa studied economics at the University of Barcelona and senior management at the IESE business school. He has taught in the University of Barcelona and the ESADE business school and speaks Spanish, Catalan, French, English and some Arabic.

He started his career in the banking industry with several positions at the Banco Atlántico in Barcelona and Madrid between 1967 and 1977. He later moved to Bankunión, where he eventually became deputy director general. He has also been chief financial officer at Coviares Covimet in Buenos Aires, regional manager of Banco Urquijo Unión, CEO of ACESA and of AUCAT.

In “la Caixa” he has occupied a number of posts, including human resources manager, executive director (human resources and internal communications), executive director (personal and corporate). Between 1988 and 1995 he was CEO of Caixabank France, a commercial banking subsidiary of “la Caixa”.

In January 2008, he was appointed executive director of Obra Social “la Caixa” and CEO of the “la Caixa” Foundation. Now he is a board member of the "la Caixa" Banking Foundation.
