Fifth Meeting of CRESIB's Advisory Committee

The ISGlobal research centre's Advisory Committee met this week to evaluate the centre's scientific progress and make recommendations for further developments.

25.03.2014

CRESIB's Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee (STAC) held its fifth meeting on March 21st. The role of this committee is to evaluate CRESIB's scientific progress and advise the centre on how it can further improve its performance. The committee is made up of internationally renowned researchers and this year's meeting was attended by the Chair, Professor Marcel Tanner, Director of the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute in Basil, Switzerland, Dr. José Alcamí from the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, and Vicente Larraga from the Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas of the Spanish National Research Council. Also present were members of CRESIB's Steering Committee and Internal Scientific Committee.

The meeting began with a review of the most important institutional and scientific achievements made by CRESIB, an ISGlobal research centre, in the past two years. The participants then analysed in detail the progress that has been made in the strategic alliance between CRESIB, ISGlobal and CREAL (Centre for Research in Environmental Epidemiology). The alliance is part of the Catalan Government's SUMA initiative for members of the Catalan network of research centres, CERCA. The meeting ended with the evaluation of two CRESIB researchers within the centre's scientific career programme.

The STAC will present CRESIB's directorate and governing bodies with a report summarising the conclusions and recommendations that emerged from the meeting. The document will serve as a guideline to further strengthen the centre and enhance its contribution to the strategic alliance with ISGlobal and CREAL.
