21.06.2011

CREAL researcher Judith Garcia-Aymerich has received the "2011 Bronconeumology Files Award " for the original article published in 2009 which has received more citations in 2010. This award was presented by the Spanish Society of Pneumology and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR) during its annual meeting held in Oviedo.

The original title of this is 'Phenotypic characterization and evolution of COPD in the study PAC-COPD: design and methodology' (J. Garcia-Aymerich. FP Gomez. Antó JM. Bronconeumol. 2009; 45:4-11). This project has resulted in many original papers that allow rethink the definition and classification of COPD and understand better the factors associated with their evolution, which with no doubts will benefit patients.

In this sense, we might add that COPD is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Still, research to date on this disease is inadequate to conceive successful diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
