This project will design and implement an extensive scientific outreach campaign, building on the results of ReAcció 2025, aimed at non-expert audiences. It will be framed within the 2026 World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week, which provides an ideal opportunity to address this challenge and mobilise global efforts through local action.

The project will be coordinated by ISGlobal's Antimicrobial Resistance Initiative, a leading organisation in research, citizen engagement and science communication.

The project aims to promote:

1. Collective responsibility

Encouraging public engagement in the prevention and management of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), highlighting the importance of both individual and collective action to mitigate AMR.

2. Universal access to scientific knowledge

Promoting access to high-quality scientific information in a clear and accessible way for the general public, with particular emphasis on people aged 18–35 and 65+—groups that are more affected by AMR due to polypharmacy, other chronic conditions and/or a lack of awareness of infection prevention practices. The project will contribute to scientific literacy while creating opportunities for dialogue with researchers and policymakers to foster a holistic understanding of the challenge and of the actions being undertaken by experts to mitigate AMR.

In addition, immersive artistic installations in public spaces will help engage diverse audiences, providing an attractive and accessible way to reach this scientific knowledge.

3. Interdisciplinary collaboration

Fostering collaboration among professionals from a wide range of disciplines and sectors to address AMR in a comprehensive and holistic way (veterinary medicine, zoonoses, planetary health, microbiology, human and clinical health, pest control, public health, national action plans and regulations, waste management, etc.).

Furthermore, collaboration with artists from different disciplines (immersive and audiovisual installations, graphic design) will not only enable the creation of high-impact science communication resources, but also involve disciplines that are not usually represented within the field of microbiology.

4. Sustainability and the One Health approach

Emphasising the need for sustainable measures in AMR management to safeguard health in the long term at the individual level (responsible and informed antibiotic use), the professional level (forums for improving management practices and identifying successful regulatory approaches to antimicrobial prescribing and use), and the societal level (bringing these two dimensions together to achieve a positive and sustainable ReAcció over time to mitigate AMR).
