PRISMA-CAT investigates how air pollution and extremes of temperature affect people with chronic respiratory diseases in Catalonia.

Using detailed health and environmental data, the study will examine short-term links between environmental exposures and disease exacerbations, hospitalizations, and sick leaves. It will also evaluate whether medications such as inhaled corticosteroids, statins, SGLT-2 inhibitors, and vaccines can reduce these risks, and explore patient perspectives on coping with climate-related stressors. By combining quantitative and qualitative research, the project aims to identify environmental triggers, assess protective strategies, and generate evidence to guide public health policies and clinical practice in the era of climate change.
