Nika Stastny

Investigadora predoctoral Salut materna, infantil i reproductiva | Infeccions víriques i bacterianes al món

Nika Stastny is a predoctoral researcher at ISGlobal, with a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Biology (cum laude) and a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from Radboud University, Netherlands. In her academic research, she has focused on epidemiology and diagnostics of infectious diseases in low- and middle-income countries.

Her research experience includes assessing the burden of pediatric respiratory tract infections in Saint Martin Medical Center, Caribbean, and contributing to the validation of a novel point-of-care device for disease severity prediction at ISGlobal, Barcelona. Her Master’s thesis focused on the barriers and opportunities for implementing novel tuberculosis diagnostic tools in West Java, Indonesia.

Throughout these projects, she has gained experience in infectious disease epidemiology, laboratory work with clinical samples and biomarker analysis, and implementation science in LMICs.

Nika is currently continuing her work at ISGlobal under the supervision of Bàrbara Baro and Quique Bassat as part of the Medicine and Translational Research PhD Programme. Her research focuses on the development and implementation of rapid point-of-care tests for early disease diagnostics and prognostics in resource-limited settings.
