WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Lab Technician to join our dynamic Malaria Physiopathology and Genomics Group. The successful candidate will contribute to advancing our understanding of malaria epidemiology, focusing on genomic factors, and will collaborate closely with our research team. The candidate will be working under the supervision of the PI, conducting lab related activities in the context of the “SexMal” project PID2020-118328RB-I00 funded by MICIU/AEI /10.13039/501100011033.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintaining and optimizing parasite in vitro cultures.
  • Performing flow cytometry and cell sorting of fluorescent-labeled cells.
  • Conducting RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, and quantitative real-time PCR (RT-qPCR).
  • Providing training and mentorship to team members on advanced laboratory techniques.
  • Analyzing results and integrating findings into research publications.

SKILLS

  • Expertise in extracting nucleic acids, including DNA and RNA.
  • Extensive experience in PCR, qPCR, and RT-qPCR techniques.
  • Skills for maintaining Plasmodium in vitro cultures within BSL2 laboratory environments.
  • Hands-on experience with flow cytometry and cell sorting techniques.
  • Fundamental knowledge of R programming for data analysis.
  • Skilled in analyzing scientific data and translating findings into well-structured research papers.
  • Strong ability to collaborate effectively in team-based projects.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to effectively train others in specialized laboratory techniques.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biology or similar areas
  • MSc in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biology or similar area

LANGUAGES

  • English (C1)
  • Portuguese knowledge is desirable.

CONDITIONS

  • Duration: 6 months
  • Starting date: November 2024
  • Contract: Full-time
  • Salary Range: According to ISGlobal Salary scale

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process is designed in two phases:
1- Interview phase of a technical nature, with the team that requires the incorporation. To assess the person's skills and CV.
2 - Meeting with HR with the finalist(s) to finish assessing the profile and discuss contractual and institutional issues.

If needed any technical test could be pass. A Psychological Competency Evaluation Test will be required for the structural or transversal positions.

In accordance with the OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process. After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will start the interviews, with at least one technical and one administrative interview. A profile questionnaire as well as a technical exercise may be required during the process.
