Management of Travel-Related Diseases - ONLINE

Aimed at clinicians seeking advanced studies in the syndromic approach to returning travelers and migrants, this course is included as a module of the Travel Medicine and Health in Mobile Populations course.

Participants who complete this course should learn how to perform an appropriate clinical evaluation of travelers and migrants, making a correct differential diagnosis. They should be able to identify the management and treatment for specific diseases commonly seen in patients, considering the latest scientific
updates.

Methodology

The course methodology is based on clinical cases presented through interactive lessons, short videos on key concepts, online clinical rounds, and interaction with faculty through the online forum, complemented by downloadable text resources.

Coursework and activities can be completed in a way that adapts to the participants’ schedules. 

Course Director

Dr Natalia Rodríguez-Valero is an Internal Medicine specialist working on Travel Medicine in the Department of International Health and Tropical Diseases (Hospital Clinic Barcelona) since 2015, after her specialization in Tropical Medicine & International Health in London in 2014 and several international stages. She performs her research as an associated researcher at ISGlobal. Her main current research fields are emerging diseases and new technologies in Travel Medicine.

Faculty Coordinator

Dr Daniel Camprubí, Assistant Research Professor, is a medical doctor, specialized in Internal Medicine and working as a Senior Specialist in the International Health Department at Hospital Clínic of Barcelona, since 2017. He worked in Ethiopia and collaborated in projects in Mozambique, Sierra Leone and Puerto Rico.

He did his Master in Study Design and Research Analysis in Health Sciences. Given his specific training in infectious diseases, his primary research interest and his doctoral thesis focused on imported febrile illnesses and vector-borne diseases, with more than several articles published in this field. He collaborated with the CDC Dengue Branch and, as a researcher at ISGlobal, he is currently working on several projects on malaria and arboviruses.

He is an active member of ESGITM working group (ECCMID), the TropNet Research Committee, and he is leading the working group of imported febrile illnesses from SEMTSI.

Course Coordinator

Dr Pedro Laynez Roldán is an internal medicine specialist who collaborates with the international health department of the Hospital Clinic and the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal). His work focuses on tropical imported diseases among travelers and migrants, particularly related to recently arrived migrants and health at the border.
