Carlota Sáenz de Tejada
Staff Scientist Climate, Air Pollution, Nature and Urban Health
Carlota Sáenz de Tejada holds a PhD in Architecture and Urban Planning (2019), for which she received the Extraordinary Doctorate Award (2021). She completed her PhD studies with a grant from the Spanish Ministry of Education's University Teacher Training Programme (FPU), including research stays at Politecnico di Milano and the University of Edinburgh.
She is currently a Staff Scientist at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal), where she is a member of the Urban Health research area. Her research focuses on the links between housing, the built environment and health, with particular interest in healthy and inclusive housing, ageing, indoor environmental conditions, and adaptation to climate change.
She has been Principal Investigator of three research projects on housing and health funded through competitive research calls by Barcelona City Council: HABITAS, HABITAS-GRAN and B-COOL@HOME. Through these projects, her research has addressed different dimensions of housing and health, including indoor environmental quality, healthy ageing, and household adaptation to extreme heat.
She has also participated in national and international research, training and knowledge-transfer projects on housing, urban resilience, the residential environment and healthy urban planning, collaborating with institutions including Barcelona Provincial Council, the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), the United Nations and the World Health Organization.
