The sixth visit of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee of CRESIB, research centre at ISGlobal, took place last Thursday 19 and Friday 20 of March, with the aim of evaluating the institution's scientific activity during the last year.  

The Committee, composed of leading academic personalities from around the world, was chaired by Professor Marcel Tanner, director of the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, Basel, and included the participation of Professor Myron Levine, director of the Center for VAccine Development, Baltimore, Dr. José Alcamí, director of the AIDS Unit of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, Madrid, Professor Mariano Esteban, director of the vaccine laboratory of the Centro Nacional de Biotecnología, CSIC (Madrid) and Professor Vicente Larraga, director of the vaccine and gene expression group of the Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas, CSIC (Madrid). Dr. Lluis Rovira, Director of the CERCA Institution, was also present during the visit.

The goal of the meeting was to present the main scientific achievements of the last year (March 2014 to March 2015), the strategic bases and the 2015 ISGlobal Action Plan, the current development and perspectives of the alliance process with CREAL and the development of an innovation strategy.  In addition, the committee evaluated the research plans of each program and the scientific progress of seven researchers. 

While the final report is pending, the STAC members evaluated very positively the institute's progress, particularly in the current crisis situation, the smooth transition in its leadership, and the progress made in the fusion of the ISGlobal Alliance with CRESIB and CREAL.  They also offered valuable recommendations for the Centre's strategies and research projects.
