ISGlobal, a centre supported by the ”la Caixa” Foundation, and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), an institution attached to the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, have signed a general protocol of action to strengthen scientific collaboration in research, researcher training and knowledge transfer.

The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation aimed at developing joint research lines and projects in areas of shared interest, such as biomedicine and health. This includes the exchange of scientific and technological knowledge, mutual advisory activities, the creation of working groups and the preparation of specialised reports, among other initiatives.

A partnership to address global health challenges

“This collaboration strengthens the capacity of both institutions to generate excellent research with impact on global health,” said ISGlobal Director Quique Bassat. “Working together with CSIC is essential to advance the translation of scientific knowledge into solutions that address current health challenges. It is not only about sharing resources, but about building a knowledge ecosystem.”

For CSIC President Eloísa del Pino, “this agreement reflects the institution’s commitment to more collaborative, interdisciplinary health research aimed at addressing major global challenges.” She highlighted that “the partnership with ISGlobal allows us to combine capacities and accelerate the generation of knowledge with societal impact.”

R&D, knowledge translation and societal impact

Both institutions are committed to organising joint activities to promote the social impact of research, such as seminars, specialised workshops and scientific meetings; to advancing R&D studies and programmes in shared areas; and to fostering the training of researchers, contributing to a more connected and multidisciplinary research community.

CSIC is promoting this agreement through its Interdisciplinary Thematic Platform (PTI+) Global Health, which brings together nearly 170 research groups from 66 CSIC centres. This initiative promotes multidisciplinary approaches and the use of innovative technologies to advance prevention, detection and response to global health threats.
