Malaria Elimination

West Africa Malaria Initiative (WAMI)

The West Africa Malaria Initiative (WAMI) is a regional initiative for malaria research in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).  WAMI's objective is to provide regional support for strategies undertaken to control or eliminate malaria. This is done by developing regional capacities in research (strengthening research networks) and training (improving training for malaria specialists).

Since 2010, this initiative funded by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation has been implemented jointly by Dr Fred Binka, Dean of the School of Public Health at the University of Ghana, and Dr Ogobara Doumbo, Director of the Malaria Research and Training Center (MRTC) at the University of Bamako (Mali), and Dr Pedro Alonso, Director of ISGlobal.
