Both institutions identify potential areas for joint work and seek to broaden ongoing collaborations

27.10.2015

On October 21st, several representatives of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), a group of development agencies that includes the Aga Khan Foundation and University, visited the ISGlobal headquarters in Barcelona. Michael Kocher, General Manager of the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), Marc de Lamotte, Director of the AKF in Mozambique, Nicholas McKinlay, Civil Society Director at AKF and Munir Ahmad, Digital Unit Director, met with the ISGlobal management team in order to get better acquainted with both institutions, identify common fields of interest, and expand the ongoing collaboration between ISGlobal and AKDN.

To date, ISGlobal and AKDN collaborate in several projects in the field of Maternal, Child and Reproductive Health. On one hand, ISGlobal, the Aga Khan University and the Harvard School of Public Health have created an academic partnership with the aim of accelerating the reduction in maternal and new born mortality, and last June organized the first "Safe Mothers and Newborns" workshop. In view of the event's success, the three institutions are already preparing the next workshop edition that will take place from July 10 to 15 of 2016 in Boston, USA, and are exploring the possibility of developing regional versions and an online program.

In addition, ISGlobal and the Aga Khan Foundation, together with the Manhiça Health Research Center (CISM) have worked hand in hand on the PapVac Project, a collaborative study that evaluated the acceptability and feasibility of implementing a Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccination program for pre-adolescent girls in Mozambique.
