Marta Sisteré
Postdoctoral Researcher Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases
Marta Sisteré-Oró is an immuno-virologist with over a decade of experience in viral pathogenesis, vaccine development, and translational immunology. She completed her BSc in Biology (Microbiology specialization) at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 2012 and her MSc in Advanced Microbiology at Universitat de Barcelona in 2013. She earned her PhD in Medicine and Animal Health from IRTA-CReSA (UAB) in 2019, focusing on cross-protective avian and swine influenza vaccines.
From 2020 to 2026, Sisteré-Oró served as a Postdoctoral Fellow and Laboratory Manager at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF). In this role, she evaluated vaccine immune responses against SARS-CoV-2 and MPXV in vulnerable and healthy human cohorts. Preclinically, she characterized T-cell responses for HIPRA’s COVID-19 vaccine (BIMERVAX® / PHH-1V) and possible RSV vaccine candidates, and explored LNP-free mRNA vaccine delivery systems. In translational clinical research, she led immunophenotyping analyses for the VENEZOLUNG trial in extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC), using correlation and heatmap models to evaluate biomarkers correlating with patients' clinical benefit.
In September 2026, Sisteré-Oró joined the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Malaria Immunology Group co-led by Carlota Dobaño and Gemma Moncunill. Her research focuses on evaluating T-cell immune responses in the context of infection dynamics and novel vaccination projects.
