Julia Pedreira Rincon

Predoctoral fellow Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases | Global Viral and Bacterial Infections

Júlia Pedreira Rincón holds a degree in Pharmacy from the University of Barcelona in 2019. She also holds a Master in Clinical Research: International Health Track, from the same university. Her thesis was on a preliminary study of a point-of-care sensor for malaria prognostics and was carried out at ISGlobal, under the supervision of Dr. Claudio Parolo and Dr. Daniel Camprubí.

Currently, Júlia is an ISGlobal Predoctoral Fellow working on biosensors for malaria and other neglected tropical diseases, with a focus on prognostic biomarkers and the development of innovative point-of-care platforms, including lateral flow assays and complementary digital readouts to support fast, objective clinical decision-making.

Lines of research

  • Prognostic and severity biomarkers in malaria for improved risk stratification.
  • Lateral flow assay (LFA) development and performance evaluation.
  • Digital diagnostics: smartphone image/video analysis to accelerate and standardize LFA reading.
  • Aptamer-based biosensing platforms for quantitative detection of malaria biomarkers.
