David Torres

Predoctoral Medical Research Fellow Malaria

Born in Madrid (Spain) in 1991, he graduated with a Medical Degree from Autonoma University of Madrid in 2015, after receiving six Excellence Grants and the National Degree Award. He became a pediatrician in University Hospital ‘12 de Octubre’ and furthered his training performing Masters of Science in Pediatric Infectious Disease (UCM), Tropical Medicine and International Health (UAM), and HIV infection (URJC).

He has worked in several low-middle income countries such as Cameroon and Rwanda, and has published in international journals and books on pediatric infectious diseases and tropical medicine. His main area of interest is reducing child mortality in low-middle income countries, particularly due to malaria.

He is a Predoctoral Fellow in Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) collaborating with Manhiça Health Research Centre (CISM).

  • Differential diagnosis of malaria and other common pediatric infections.
  • Mortality surveillance and cause of death ascertainment in low-income settings.
