Shannon obtained her Master’s degree in Public Health at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona and has two undergraduate degrees from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles: one in Women’s Studies (within which she focused on migration, refugees, and trafficking) and one in Environmental Studies (within which she focused on earth science and climate change). Her undergraduate thesis focused on climate migrants in the Pacific and her master’s thesis focused on migrants’ access to health services in Barcelona.

After completing her undergraduate studies, Shannon spent two and a half years in Mexico and Peru volunteering at centers for refugees and migrants. Afterward, she worked at the humanitarian organization Medical Teams International coordinating Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene and Community Health Worker programs in Guatemala and Colombia, in addition to supporting disaster/emergency response operations in Uganda and Bangladesh.

Shannon has joined ISGlobal as a research technician and guest professor on the project “Planetary Health: Challenges and Opportunities in the Northern Bolivian Amazon.” Within this project, she will collaborate with local partners to conduct a Health Impact Assessment on deforestation’s effect on the population in addition to supporting the design and implementation of a Diploma in Planetary Health at the University of Beni.
