José Urquiza holds a PhD in Computer Science Engineering from the University of Granada, where his research focused on machine learning models for predicting protein-protein interactions using high-performance computing (HPC) approaches. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher in bioinformatics at IDIBELL from 2012 to 2013. Since joining ISGlobal in 2013, he has gained over twelve years of continuous professional experience in data governance. This specialised background establishes him as an expert in advanced computational modelling and strategic data management within the biomedical field. He is formally accredited as a Senior Lecturer by the main Spanish and Catalan University Quality Assurance Agencies: Professor Agregado (AQU) and Professor Contratado Doctor (ANECA).

His current responsibilities focus on strategic data governance and regulatory compliance. Urquiza acts as the senior point of contact for Data Governance, where he is responsible for designing and managing the entire data lifecycle for high-impact studies. His duties include mitigating risk, ensuring strict adherence to FAIR principles and data traceability, and providing the strategic coordination necessary to ensure that scientific output meets the rigorous integrity standards required by international funding bodies and high-impact publications.
