Ignasi López

Director of Science Communication at “la Caixa” Foundation

Ignasi López Verdeguer has 25 years of experience in research and innovation funding, management, and science-in-society issues. Currently he is Director of Science Communication at “la Caixa” Foundation. He graduated in Physics from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (with his final year at the Université de Grenoble) and holds a Master’s in Bioethics and Law from the Universitat de Barcelona, as well as a Postgraduate Degree in Business Management from IESE-Universidad de Navarra.

At "la Caixa" Foundation, he has served on the Board of Trustees of IrsiCaixa and the Fundació Catalana per la Recerca i la Innovació, among other institutions, and has coordinated R&I funding programmes such as the CaixaResearch Health Call and the biotech acceleration programme CaixaImpulse.

He is currently a member of the Conseil d’administration of the Fondation One Science Montpellier. He has acted as an external evaluator for the European Commission on science-in-society issues and was a member of its Expert Group on Venture Philanthropy and Social Investments in Research. He served as Chairman of the Research Forum of the European Foundation Centre —now Philea— and chaired the Advisory Board on Ethical, Legal, and Social Issues of EIT-Health of the European Institute of Technology. He has participated in several EU-funded projects on Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) and Open Science, including LIV:IN, COMPASS, and ORION Open Science. He was the coordinator of the 26 partners EC-funded project RRI Tools.
