"The demand for professionals with transdisciplinary training is on the rise," explains Núria Casamitjana, director of the programme

Núria Casamitjana, director of the Master of Global Health, announced that pre-enrolment is now open for the fourth edition of the programme, which is set to begin in September 2015. In her announcement, Dr Casamitjana underscored the growing number of employment opportunities for global health professionals with multidisciplinary training. Pre-enrolment is also open for the Diploma of Global Health Fundamentals.

Both training programmes are taught by ISGlobal in collaboration with the University of Barcelona and various academic institutions, research centres and NGOs in the health sector, including Médicos Sin Fronteras and Intermón Oxfam.

The Master of Global Health is designed for individuals seeking to pursue a career in health from a global and transdisciplinary perspective. "The programme provides the necessary knowledge and tools for analysing the complex factors that influence the health of the world's population in the 21st century," explained Dr Casamitjana. Such an analysis, she noted, requires an understanding of health grounded not only in biomedicine but also in disciplines such as economics, political science, anthropology, epidemiology and environmental science. "We want professionals with solid training in both values and knowledge who will work through organisations involved in this field to reduce the health equity gap," she added.

Joan Tallada, academic coordinator of the Master of Global Health, commented: "We have an excellent faculty of local and international experts specialised in the subjects they teach. They base their teaching on their experience in the field, using an interactive approach that seeks to stimulate students' critical faculties and independent judgement."

The second course, the Diploma of Global Health Fundamentals, is a postgraduate course comprising the first two modules of the Master of Global Health. It is designed for those seeking to acquire basic knowledge in the field of global health.

Both training programmes are full-time courses taught face-to-face at the University of Barcelona Faculty of Medicine. The Master runs from September 2015 to June 2016 and the Diploma from September 2015 to February 2016.
