Quique Bassat presenta ISGlobal

11.01.2024

Quique Bassat, Director General of the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal), introduces the institution.

Video transcription:

ISGlobal is an institution that generates knowledge through scientific research and brings it to the settings where it can create transformative impact. Our ultimate goal is for everyone, everywhere, to enjoy good health. We pursue this goal with a strong focus on equity, paying special attention to the most disadvantaged and vulnerable populations.

Nearly 600 people from around 50 different nationalities work at ISGlobal. Eighty per cent of our staff are researchers, organised around five major research programmes.

Our scientific agenda takes a broad view of the global health challenges facing the world. We work on infectious diseases such as malaria, Chagas disease, and viral and bacterial infections. We also address non-communicable diseases, including chronic conditions, as well as the health challenges posed by climate change and environmental factors.

Our knowledge translation areas focus on taking this research beyond scientific journals and making it accessible to wider sectors of society. We do this through training and communication, as well as through policy advocacy campaigns and development projects.

All of this is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and made possible thanks to the support of the institutions that form our Board of Trustees.
