27.10.2010

On October 26 the CREAL researcher, David Rojas, participated in the symposium "Towards a healthy and safe mobility" in order to explain the interaction between health and mobility in transport, beyond traffic accidents.

The symposium was a rapprochement between public policy makers, government authorities, civil associations and public health researchers. In fact, besides the CREAL researcher, participated in this event Antoni Plasència, director of Public Health, Josep Pérez Moya, director of the Catalan Traffic Service, and Miguel Angel Dombriz, head of the Department of Transportation of the Generalitat of Catalonia.

During the symposium, held in the auditorium of the Department of Health of the Generalitat of Catalonia, it was highlighted that the effects of environment on the health of citizens is directly related to mobility.

In addition, Rojas introduced to some preliminary data of TAPAS project, which reported the risk associated with air pollution and traffic accidents during active transport (cycling and walking).

Even so, it was also reported data suggesting that the health benefits of physical activity is much greater than the risks associated with pollution and accidents.

Participants concluded by stressing the importance of health, when we talk about a safe and sustainable mobility.
