Seeking for Malaria Heroes

ISGlobal partners with Social Media Awards 2015 to help elect the Malaria Champion for Latin America

19.08.2015

The Social Media Awards have invited ISGlobal to join this year's initiative to help elect the "Malaria Hero" for Latin America, in view of the institution's experience and relevance amidst the Spanish-speaking malaria community. The prize recognizes individuals who use social media the most effectively to promote the fight against the disease.

Five other international institutions – Asia Pacific Leader's Malaria Alliance (APLMA), the United Nations Development Programme (UNPD), Roll Back Malaria Partnership, Medicines for Malaria Venture, and Malaria no More- will help choose the malaria champions in the Asia-Pacific region, African region, People's choice, Innovator, and Young Leader categories, respectively.

One of ISGlobal's main roles will be using its own social network to announce the initiative, promote the nomination of Latin American candidates and communicate the award results.

The Social Media Awards were created last year to recognize and promote the use of social media (twitter and facebook) in global health. This year it has chosen to recognize regional leaders, health workers, communicators and any other person involved in the fight against malaria. The control and elimination of the disease, explains the organization, is closely linked to the proposed sustainable development goals.

Nominations and endorsements for the prize opened on the 2nd of June and will close on the 15th of September. The awardees or "Malaria Heroes" will be announced on October 29th.
