Digital Book “Mum, I Want to Be a Scientist"

11.02.2025

The digital book “Mum, I Want to Be a Scientist” is a joint initiative of ISGlobal’s Gender Commission and Communications team to commemorate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, celebrated on 11 February. This project was created with the aim of bringing society, and especially girls, closer to the personal and professional trajectories of ISGlobal’s women researchers.

Through first-person stories, thirteen ISGlobal women scientists, from different fields of study and at various stages of their careers, share their life and professional experiences, reflecting on the experiences and role models that sparked their interest in science and inspired them to pursue this vocation.

The initiative seeks to highlight the role of women in science, a field in which they still face numerous challenges, such as access to leadership positions or recognition of their work. In this context, making female role models visible is essential to inspire scientific vocations in new generations.

Although the path to a scientific career is not always straightforward, ISGlobal’s women researchers agree that the desire to contribute to global health, improve people’s lives and advance scientific knowledge is the main driving force that motivates and gives meaning to their daily work.
