Health and Social Care for Migrant Populations in Spain

23.03.2026

Migration is a structural phenomenon reshaping Spain's present and future. Ensuring equitable access to healthcare and social care for migrants is not just a matter of justice: it is a public health necessity and an investment in the sustainability of our welfare system.

This report, produced by ISGlobal for Spain's General Council of Pharmaceutical Associations in collaboration with its Social Advisory Board, examines the administrative, linguistic and cultural barriers that hinder migrants' access to health and social care services in Spain. Through four complementary policy briefs, the report advocates for an integrated and coordinated care model that strengthens cultural competence, intercultural mediation and the strategic role of the community pharmacy network as an accessible point of care and a guarantor of social cohesion across the country.
