Josep M Antó introduce an exhibition at Cosmocaixa

This morning the director of CREAL, Josep M Antó, participated in the press conference of the exhibition "Air. Respiration and Child Health” which will be open from October 15, 2010 to October 14, 2011 at Cosmocaixa. Jordi Sunyer, codirector of the center, gave scientific advice.

The event also has participated Soledad Román, CEO Roger Torné Foundation, Elisa Duran, deputy director of Fundación la Caixa and Enric Banda, director of the Department of Science, Research and Environment.

This exhibition, an initiative of Fundació Roger Torné with the collaboration of the Fundación la Caixa, addresses the intrinsic relationship between air quality and children's respiratory health.

With the support of a large research group on child health which is the CREAL (Research Center for Environmental Epidemiology).

In industrialized countries currently die of asthma three times more people than 20 years ago, despite improvements in medication and hospital care that have taken place during this period of time. In this regard it is noteworthy that the pediatric population, although it comprises only 20-25% of all people, including 40-45% of all cases of asthma.

"AIR. Respiration and Child Health" invites us to discover through four spaces (womb, home, school and street) environmental risks and teaches us to be prevented in each case, highlighting the actions needed to enjoy a healthy environment and prevent diseases, especially respiratory.

This exhibition is an opportunity for families, schools and general public to understand the particular vulnerability of children to environmental factors (both anatomical and metabolic characteristics) and awareness about the importance of prevention in the respiratory health child
