GENOMet network gathers 60 Spanish researchers

01.12.2011

Yesterday GENOMet network held its first meeting in Barcelona. It was a very successful event, which counted with the attendance of 60 researchers from 30 Spain research centress and universities. The attendees came not only from bioinformatics centres but also from statistical and research centres that generate genomic data so they can get some benefit from the tools developed in this environmental network.

In the meeting eight presentations were presented, which released both methodological and applied work in different fields as molecular biology, epidemiology of cancer and genomic evolution. The meeting ended with a discussion on the future and the inclusion of new groups to it.

GENOMet was created to facilitate exchange of knowledge between groups dedicated to methodological development and bioinformatics applications in the analysis of genomic data. This is a network funded by MICINN (MTM2010-09526-E), initially formed by researchers from CREAL (Juan R Gonzalez - IP of the project), CNIO (Ramon Diaz-Uriarte - currently in the UAM), ICO (Victor Moreno) and IMIM (Roberto Elosúa).
