CREAL researchers David Donaire and Ivan Dueñas, prize-winners at the 14th International Symposium on COPD

30.04.2014

Two scientific articles on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and physical activity from CREAL, an ISGlobal research centre, received awards during this year’s International Symposium on COPD, which gathers researchers and clinicians from around the world.

An article entitled ‘Effects of the quantity and intensity of physical activity on the exacerbation of COPD’ with David Donaire as first author was awarded first prize for the best paper. A second article entitled 'Effects of anxiety and depression on physical activity among COPD patients' with Ivan Duenas as first author received an honourable mention. These awards represent an important recognition for the Physical Activity and COPD group at CREAL.

The International Symposium of COPD has been held every two years for the past 30 years in the city of Barcelona. At this year’s conference, the first day consisted of a review of new developments in treatment and pharmacology, and the second a review of major recent studies on COPD, a disease that affects 210 million people worldwide.
