CREAL codirector obtains the Advanced Grant from ERC

The project BREATHE (BRain dEvelopment and Air polluTion ultrafine particles in scHool childrEn) has been awarded this year by the ERC, project led by Dr. Jordi Sunyer, codirector of the Centre for Research in Environmental Epidemiology (CREAL).

This project aims to study the impact of fine particulate of air pollution in the neurological development of 4,000 children from 40 schools.

The grant, about 2.5 million euros for a period of five years, will cover the important human resources for the field study and analysis of the large amount of data collected.

According to the ERC report, CREAL has become "one of the most vibrant and stimulating research environments in the EU in regard to environmental epidemiology and the impact of environmental risk factors on human health in general.”

Segons el document de la ERC, el CREAL s'ha convertit en “un dels centres de recerca més vibrant i estimulant de la Unió Europea pel que fa a l’epidemiologia ambiental i l'impacte dels factors de risc ambientals en la salut humana en general”.

The document adds that Dr. Sunyer has "an excellent international recognition based on epidemiology and public health in areas of innovation."

Jordi Sunyer is also program director of Epidemiology and Public Health, IMIM-Hospital Research Institute of Ma and Professor of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the University Pompeu Fabra (UPF).
