All the centers of the study on cancer MCC-Spain gather at CREAL

13.10.2010

CREAL will be hosting on 14 and 15 October representatives of all research centers involved in the project MCC-Spain which study the causes of various cancers (colorectal, breast, stomach, prostate and chronic lymphocytic leukemia). The meeting of the study, coordinated by Dr. Manolis Kogevinas, co-director CREAL, and Marina Pollan, head of Cancer Epidemiology Service (Instituto de Salud Carlos), will be the first scientific group meeting in which they organize the data of the approximately 4,000 cases of cancer collected until now as well as over 2,000 population controls.

All these data come from actual cases of cancers and populations controls of almost all regions of Spain: Catalonia, Madrid, Navarra, Basque Country, Castilla y León, Asturias, Murcia, Andalusia, Cantabria and Valencia.

Specifically, during these two days, CREAL will receive 45 researchers from 17 centers CIBERESP (Epidemiology and Public Health).

On the other hand, Dr. Antoni Castells (Hospital Clínic, Barcelona) and Dr. Montse Garcia-Closas (Institute of Cancer Research, Sutton, Surrey, UK) will offer two key lectures on colorectal cancer and breast cancer, respectively.
