Javier Louro

Javier Louro is an Assistant Research Professor at ISGlobal working through a framework agreement within the Epidemiology Unit of Hospital del Mar.

He graduated in Mathematics from the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) (2014), completed a Master's in Statistics and Operations Research at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) (2016), holds an Expert title in Health Services Research and Chronic Diseases from the University of Alcalá (2017), and obtained his PhD in Methodology of Biomedical Research and Public Health from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) (2021).

Dr. Louro worked as a PhD researcher (2016–2021) and postdoctoral researcher and project manager (2021–2023) at Hospital del Mar Research Institute (IMIM), and as postdoctoral researcher and teacher at Karolinska Institutet (KI) (2023–2026), where he secured competitive grant funding as a Principal Investigator. He has authored over 40 peer-reviewed papers (h-index: 16) and brings over 500 hours of teaching experience, which led to his ANECA accreditation as an Associate Professor.

His research focuses on cancer epidemiology, with key contributions in breast, colorectal, pediatric, and cancer screening research. His work leverages advanced biostatistics, causal inference, risk prediction modeling, survival analysis, and data visualization to improve public health decision-making in this field.
