Carmen Peuters

Investigadora posdoctoral Clima, contaminación atmosférica, naturaleza y salud urbana | Medio ambiente y salud a lo largo de la vida

Carmen Peuters is a health promotion researcher with a first MSc in Clinical and Health Psychology (KU Leuven, Belgium), a second in Research in Psychology Applied to Health Sciences (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain), and a multidisciplinary PhD in Psychology and in Health Sciences (Ghent University, Belgium).

After working on the development of quality-of-life measures for cancer treatment research (EORTC, Brussels), Carmen then focused on health promotion. Her PhD project on the development and mixed-methods evaluation of a mobile healthy lifestyle intervention for promoting adolescent mental health, involved research on health behavior change, physical activity, sleep, the link between lifestyle and mental health, participatory design, and mHealth engagement. As postdoctoral researcher at ISGlobal, she now studies the environment as a complementary way to promote healthy urban living, taking a holistic exposome perspective.

At ISGlobal, Carmen has contributed to several European Commission-funded projects. In proGIreg, she evaluated the impact of urban nature-based solutions on physical and mental health. In flagship exposome projects, including Equal-Life, she led cross-cohort analyses across Europe to investigate the link between the social, physical, and internal exposome and child and adolescent mental health. She now co-leads a work package in the YEAH! project, identifying individual, interpersonal and socioenvironmental determinants of healthy lifestyles and health among young people. In 2024, Carmen was awarded a Juan de la Cierva post-doctoral fellowship by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, under which she studies how urban design shapes lifestyle, health and child development in the Barcelona Life Study Cohort (BiSC)

Her main interests are on green space, urban planning and lifestyle behaviors for promoting community and planetary health and well-being.
