Mireia Piqueras received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 2000 from the University of Barcelona (UB) and then went on to obtain a PhD in Organic Biomedical Chemistry in 2007 in peptides synthesis and design of antibiotics at the University of Barcelona, Spain.

She worked as Program Officer at Pemba, Mozambique,  with Gruppo di Volontariato Civile, in the prevention of mother-to-child transmission. In 2008, she completed a  post-graduate course on Project Management/International Cooperation by Universitat Oberta de Catalunya and the Spanish Red Cross. She continued working in cooperation, mostly in water and sanitation, in northern Mozambique and the Saharan Refugee Camps in Algeria. She joined CRESIB in 2010.

In 2011, she completed a Program in Public Health/Epidemiology and in 2013 was cerificated in Clinical Trials Management, both by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
