Quantifiable stool-based TB PCR to Improve Diagnostics and Treatment Monitoring

Unidad de desnutrición infantil en la planta de Pediatría del Hospital de Manhiça
Duración
01/09/2020 - 01/09/2024
Coordinador
Anna Maria Mandalakas / Alberto García-Basteiro
Financiadores
National Institutes of Health (NIH)

This project aims to validate an innovative stool homogenization and DNA isolation method that yields a highly sensitive and specific Mtb qPCR-based diagnostic. StoolTB will evaluate this platform in the high TB and HIV burden settings of Mozambique, eSwatini and Uganda under the hypothesis that it will narrow the large TB case detection gap by improving TB confirmation rates in children and people living with HIV while proving feasible and acceptable.
