In our centre, we aim to assess the long term effects of early exposure to environmental microbes on the respiratory and immunologic health of school-aged children. In order to do so, we will measure atopy, FeNO in exhaled air, spirometry and bronchodilator test in a) school-aged children who have received and are still receiving follow-up since birth (n=500) and b) school-aged children selected at the present time in a representative sample of schools (N=2,000). An environmental study and a respiratory health study will be performed in a larger sample of schools (n=8,000 children).
