Mahmoud Alahmad

Investigador predoctoral Eliminación de la malaria

Mahmoud holds a degree in Biotechnology Engineering from Aleppo University. He furthered his education by completing a Master's in Advanced Biotechnology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, specializing in Molecular and Therapeutic Biotechnology. During his master's, Mahmoud focused on the functional and structural characterization of proteins and DNA-protein complexes, employing powerful techniques such as protein crystallography with synchrotron radiation as a major procedure in deciphering the molecular mechanisms underlying the atomic structure of proteins and protein complexes.

In addition to his academic achievements, Mahmoud gained hands-on expertise in programming and data analysis, implementing various programming languages at both low and high levels at Kiron Open Higher Online Education.

In 2024, Mahmoud was accepted into the ISGlobal PhD program. He is currently a member of the Plasmodium vivax and Exosome Research (PvREX) group at ISGlobal/IGTP. His research centers on investigating the role of extracellular vesicles (EVs) as intercellular communicators and biomarkers for cryptic erythrocytic infections in Plasmodium vivax malaria.

Líneas de investigación

  • Plasmodium vivax cryptic infections.
  • Extracellular Vesicle (EV) Biomarkers of Asymptomatic Chronic Infections.
