The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in three main areas, Malaria and other Infectious Diseases, Child and Maternal Health, and Urban Health, Climate & Non-Communicable Diseases.  ISGlobal is accredited with the Severo Ochoa distinction, a seal of excellence of the Spanish Science Ministry.





What We Are Looking for

We are looking for a full-time or part-time Geographic Information System (GIS) technician to join our team in childhood and environment. The candidate will work on the ELHNA (Exposure to light pollution and heat and neurodevelopment in adolescents) project funded by Spanish Institute of Health Carlos III. (grant agreement PI20/01695). The position will involve GIS data collection, processing and analysis.

Field research

  • Environmental science
  • Spatial Analysis

Specific Duties

  • GIS data collection, processing and analysis using Python or R, PostgreSQL/PostGIS and QGIS
  • Development of efficient Python-based workflows to process spatial data to conduct exposure assessment
  • Data quality control and validation 


  • Master/Course in GIS
  • Training and/or experience in related technologies (Spatial Databases, Spatial Analysis, Remote Sensing)
  • Training and/or experience in Data Science (basic Statistics, processing of complex and large datasets)
  • Training and/or experience in programming (Python, R or any other language)
  • Keen interest in environmental exposure and child health research
  • Motivated researcher capable of setting and meeting deadlines and delivering research outputs to the required standard
  • Strong organization and team-working skills
  • Professional attitude with attention to details
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Team player, yet capable of working autonomously, rational and critical thinker

Language level

  • English written and spoken


  • Duration: 18 months
  • Starting date: 1st September 2022
  • Contract: Full-time
