Cristina Pujades holds a PhD in Biology from the Universitat de Barcelona (1991). She went for a postdoctoral stay to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute at Harvard Medical School (Boston, 1991-95). In late 1995 she moved to the École Normale Supérieure (ENS) in Paris, where she spent several years, first as a postdoctoral fellow in the ENS (1995-99), and then with an independent position at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie (1999-2010).

In 2002, she joined the Department of Experimental and Health Sciences at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, where she is Associate Professor. Her group works studies how multiple cell types are generated and maintained in highly organized spatial patterns in the Central Nervous System. Her interest is to unveil when and how brain progenitors commit to a given fate and how they behave once committed.

She has been responsible of national and international projects funded by the Plan Nacional from MINECO (Spanish Government), DURSI (Catalan Government), Marató TV3, DAAD (German Government), PICS (Catalan and French Governments).

She served as Academic Secretary (2007-10) and Vice-Chair (2010-13) of the DCEXS, and as the Rector’s Delegate for Research (2015-17).
