The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in three main areas, Malaria and other Infectious Diseases, Child and Maternal Health, and Urban Health, Climate & Non-Communicable Diseases.  ISGlobal is accredited with the Severo Ochoa distinction, a seal of excellence of the Spanish Science Ministry.

What We Are Looking for

We are seeking applicants for two full-time postdoc positions in each of these areas: (i) development of an environmental health hub in Mozambique; (ii) development of research on the interplay of climate and infectious diseases. Candidates are expected to develop a programme of research, and promote interactions within ISGlobal and with strategic partners. Each post is a 3-year postdoc position based at ISGlobal (and extended travel to Mozambique for the post on environmental health in low income country (LIC) settings, and with an anticipated start date in early 2020.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibility is to develop research within existing research groups in ISGlobal, publishing scholarly work and participating in obtaining grant funding to support research. Candidates will be encouraged to teach at the masters and doctorate level. 

  • The postdoc position on environmental health in LICs should participate in the development of an environmental health hub based at the Manhiça Health Research Centre (CISM), Mozambique and help develop training and research on environmental health in southern Africa. 
  • The postdoc position on the interplay of climate and-infectious diseases will be co-supervised by the climate and infectious diseases groups and should promote research and secure new funding on studies evaluating the effect of climate on occurrence and control of diseases such as malaria and Chagas, or on antimicrobial resistance.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a PhD or equivalent degree in biomedicine, epidemiology, computer sciences, environmental sciences, biostatistics, or a related discipline by the position start date, and a record of peer reviewed publications. Candidates should be fluent in English.
