Simon works on population health and the environment, predominantly focussing on the health impacts of climate change, including undernutrition, diarrhoeal disease, labour productivity losses, and coastal flooding. He has also worked on healthy sustainable cities. Simon’s research has led to invitations to develop climate-health models and/or to contribute to expert meetings for the World Health Organization, the World Bank, and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
He is currently working on the EARLY-ADAPT project in Joan Ballester's group, looking at various aspects of the climate-health relation in Europe.
He holds a PhD (on climate change and undernutrition) and an MSc (Public Health and the Environment) from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He has a particular interest in how the combined effects of society and the environment shape population health, and the use of theory - particularly from the political economy of health and social epidemiology - to develop understandings of this.
Simon joined ISGlobal in 2020 and is based in Madrid. Previously he worked at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and before that in public health for the National Health Service (NHS) in Scotland.
